25 Years of Agricultural Expertise
Mr. H. Jagath Kumara spent a quarter century as a professional Agriculture Instructor with Sri Lanka's Department of Agriculture — training thousands of farming families across the Southern Province in soil science, crop management, irrigation systems, and sustainable cultivation methods. He holds a National Diploma in Technology in Agriculture from Hardy Technical College.
In 2015, he channelled that institutional mastery into founding HarriCens Ceylon, recognising that Sri Lanka's greatest tourism asset is not its beaches or monuments but the living knowledge of its farming communities. Wilbert Estate — his five-acre working property in Kirikurakkangahahena, Hakmana — serves as the operational heart of every authentic experience the company delivers.
When Kumara leads guests through the pepper cultivation cycle or demonstrates traditional cinnamon peeling, he draws on 25 years of professional practice — not a prepared script. This depth of knowledge creates educational guest experiences of a quality unavailable through any other operator in Sri Lanka.
Leadership Strengths
The competitive advantages that make every HarriCens Ceylon experience exceptional
No tour operator in Sri Lanka can match 25 years as a certified Agriculture Instructor with the Department of Agriculture. This institutional expertise transforms every farm visit from tourism into genuine education — depth and authenticity simply unavailable elsewhere at any price.
A real, productive five-acre farm in Hakmana — not a tourist attraction. Coconut, pepper, cinnamon, and tropical crops cultivated using organic methods on land that feeds and sustains local families. Guests participate in genuine agricultural work that purpose-built agro-tourism venues cannot replicate.
Decades of agricultural extension work created genuine relationships with 15+ farming families across Matara and Southern Province. The village homestay network functions because families trust Kumara completely — trust built through years of working alongside them, not above them.
Teaching is Kumara's profession as much as farming. His ability to explain cinnamon fermentation chemistry to a Japanese academic, demonstrate coconut rope-making to an Australian adventurer, and discuss permaculture with a British environmentalist — all with equal clarity — is a differentiator trained guides rarely possess.
Maximum 8 participants per agricultural programme. Every guest receives founder-level attention, personalised instruction, and flexible itinerary adaptation. This model creates experiences that large operators structurally cannot replicate, justifying premium pricing while building deep guest loyalty.
Organic farming promotion, zero-waste operations, water conservation education, and carbon-reduction initiatives are founding principles — not marketing positions. Built by a man who spent 25 years teaching farmers to care for their land, these credentials withstand the scrutiny environmentally aware travellers apply.

Principles That Guide Us
The beliefs that shape every decision and every experience we create
Every experience is grounded in genuine agricultural practice. Guests participate in real plantation operations, interact with actual farming families, and learn skills sustaining communities for centuries. No simulations, no staged performances.
Expert agricultural guidance, meticulous planning, and commitment to exceeding expectations. A founder whose 25-year career trained thousands of farmers sets a standard no competitor can easily match.
Organic farming, zero-waste operations, water conservation, and carbon-reduction are daily operating principles. HarriCens Ceylon honours its responsibility to the land and future generations unconditionally.
60% of all tour revenues flow directly to farming families and rural communities. Economic dignity, employment, and skills training reach local people as a natural consequence of every booking.
Transparent communications, honest pricing, and delivered promises form the foundation of every relationship. HarriCens Ceylon's reputation rests entirely on the trust it earns and maintains.
HarriCens Ceylon documents traditional cultivation methods, supports heritage crop varieties, and creates income streams that make cultural preservation economically viable for farming families and the generations who will inherit their knowledge.
